This 3-day seminar is designed to teach and reinforce the sound fundamentals of the interview and interrogation process for the professional investigator. This training course offers a broad range of cutting-edge methods and proprietary tools to conduct more effective interviews and interrogations, resulting in identifying the truth more efficiently and with less resistance.
Learn to assess verbal and non-verbal behavior and become more effective on the focus of an investigation and obtaining reliable information. Gather a variety of non-confrontational interview and interrogation techniques to overcome resistance of victims, witnesses and criminal offenders.
Using actual investigations this course offers a diverse collection of case studies to providing strategic tactics to establish guilt and prosecute the offenders.

This course applies specifically to agencies whose personnel may be called upon to interview or interrogate suspects, victims, informants or witnesses of criminal activity. Investigators and associated law enforcement professionals conducting these inquiries will learn to apply interview and interrogation techniques that most often will uncover the truth and bring these cases to a successful conclusion.

Tom McGreal, CFI
Thomas F. McGreal, CFI® earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Lewis University and a Masters of Business Administration Degree with a concentration in Training and Performance Management from St. Xavier University. He is a Certified Forensic Interviewer and received Forensic Interviewing of Children Training at the National Children’s Advocacy Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Tom is an active member of the International Association of Interviewers, International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainer’s Association, and The Illinois Homicide Investigator’s Association.
Tom previously served twenty-nine years with the Chicago Police Department. His career included Homicide Detective, Uniform Patrol, Special Operations Group, assignment to the State’s Attorney’s Office and undercover assignments. As a Gang Crime Specialist he was recognized by the Cook County Courts as an expert witness. He also acted as a liaison between the Cook County Jail and the Chicago Police Department. Additionally he worked for six years as an investigator with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Post Conviction / Complex Prosecution Unit.
Tom was assigned to the Detective Division Training Staff and assisted with the coordination and training of newly promoted detectives at the Chicago Police Academy. He was also detailed to the Crime Analysis Unit of the Chicago Police Department collecting statistical information regarding homicides. His varied assignments and depth of experience makes him uniquely qualified to lead discussions on difficult interviews and interrogations.
Tom has been an instructor with Wicklander-Zulawski & Associates, Inc. (WZ) since 2007 and is a Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFIâ). To qualify for this distinction, a person must pass a standardized examination, which covers a series of topics regarding the interviewing and interrogation process. The CFIâ demonstrates understanding of legal aspects of interviewing and proficiency in interview preparation, behavioral, analysis, accusatory and non-accusatory interviewing, documentation, and presentation of findings. The objective of this certification program is to create comprehensive, universally accepted professional standards combined with an objective measure of an interviewer’s knowledge of those standards.
