D.O.A. Death Investigations Training

Wicklander-Zulawski Death Investigations

Wicklander-Zulawski Death Investigations

Learn the “3C Method” Capture/Confession/Conviction in WZ’s Death Investigations Training Seminar.

This three-day course incorporates two perspectives on the death investigations process, one from a seasoned homicide detective, and the other from a highly skilled prosecutor. Working together, the speakers blend practical street smarts and courtroom know-how to cover all of the death investigations techniques necessary to develop leads, identify suspects, and interview those involved.

The course will present illustrations from actual death investigations. Participants will work through cases from the moment first responders arrive until those responsible are convicted at trial.

Who should attend:

  • Law enforcement personnel to include prosecutors, coroners/medical examiners, patrol officers, detectives, crime scene investigators, evidence technicians, police supervisors and major case squad members.

What you’ll learn:

This seminar is taught by Lou Tessmann, Deputy Police Chief Waukegan Illinois, Ret. Lou is a seasoned homicide investigator who was also the Commander of the elite Lake County Major Crime Task Force. He has conducted thousands of interviews and interrogations and has obtained over 80 homicide confessions. As a veteran with over 21 years of service, his tenure has given him a wide variety of experiences to teach a course that is both practical and informative.

This program also features Jeff Pavletic. Jeff is the First Assistant State’s Attorney in charge of the Criminal Division of the Lake County (Illinois) State’s Attorney’s Office and General Counsel to the Major Crime Task Force. His 20 years of extensive trail experience includes over 150 jury trials with a concentration in homicide prosecution and violent crime. Those trials have involved some of the most high profile and complex cases in Illinois history. Jeff is a published author and well respected instructor of law.

I was in the Advanced class last week in Sioux City, IA. I really enjoyed the class and your teaching style. Particularly the encouragement to ‘go out and get ’em’, and the belief that ‘next week’ one of you is going to get a confession.Well, I get to be that guy! On Sunday  Rock Rapids, IA had a shooting. As I was driving there, I kept repeating to myself “be patient, and keep talking”. The stories were not adding up, and they asked me to come over and help out with a polygraph. When I got there, I got some details about the crime and went in to polygraph the girlfriend. As I was speaking with her, I realized she was not a good polygraph candidate. I didn’t tell her that, but when I started the pre-polygraph interview, I knew I wouldn’t be examining her. I decided to flow into the W-Z method; about 45 minutes later – full confession with very specific details.Thank you so much for the great guidance and encouragement last week. I think getting a homicide confession the first day back after the class is a pretty good testimony to the quality of the method and your teaching style.
